Anderson Bowen Strong Run Cut Short at Nashville
Late Race Accident Stops a Top-10 Run
Anderson Bowen knew that running at the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville (TN) required drivers to be patient. He knew that a mixture of patience and conserving the tires on his No. 29 Copper Creek Hardware machine would result in a solid finish at the historic 5/8-mile oval.
Bowen stuck to that game plan and it appeared to be working until a late race incident with 13 laps to go ended his night in the Federated Auto Care 100 Southern Super Series event on Saturday night.
“We got gathered up in a wreck near the end of the race,” Bowen said about his rough night. “A car spun in front of us and Jeremy Pate got into me and we were in the mix of it.”
Bowen started fifth in the second Southern Super Series event of 2015. He had a strong top-10 run going until the late race accident.
“We were doing our best to save our tires and hopefully make a run for it at the end,” Bowen explained. “We were struggling all weekend with the setup on the car, so we were trying to ride out and hope to pick up some spots in the late going of the race. Plus, with the event on a time limit, we did what could to stay close to the leaders.”
Bowen said they struggled in practice and but qualified fourth for the feature event. He was only 0.014 seconds behind the fast qualifier.
“We were hoping to come away from Nashville with a good finish after a long day, but we will get back to the shop and plan on getting them next time,” Bowen said. “We didn’t have the best car, but we were able to show we had were competitive on Saturday.”
Bowen will be taking a little break to attend his prom and will be back in the driver’s seat during the month of May.
